about
In 2017 I wrote a note to myself that I wanted to write a project about my family and my upbringing. It wasn’t until 3 years later that I finally broke through my barriers and wrote In Their Image, which snowballed into writing a bunch of songs about my family. In Their Image is written from the perspective of myself as a small child looking up at my parents and wondering if they are gods as they appear to me, wondering if they’ll ever see me or understand me. It’s a tender and innocent song, full of wonder and curiosity.
lyrics
They’re so tall
Impossibly tall
Towering over
Possibly all
Even as I grow
I can’t ever reach their eye line
Even as I grow
I can’t see what they’re seeing
I only see them as gods
Am I in their image?
I only see them as gods
They’re looking away
Am I in their image?
They’re so pure
Desperately pure
Nobody’s touching
Nobody dare
