about

I wrote Whole Me in the midst of a deep depression. I hadn’t had a period of depression that bad in probably close to a decade. I lost all sense of purpose. I spent hours of each day just staring at a wall. I had intense dissociation, the kind where you leave your body and look down on yourself. It was compounded by the feeling that I thought I had overcome this battle already, but here I was in it again. The song is about realizing you’re not done with the growing pains. There’s always still work to do assembling the pieces of yourself.

lyrics

The first time I left my body
I searched for a new one
Scrambling around in the darkness
I couldn’t get in to you

Wasn’t even worthy to desire anything
Wasn’t even worthy to desire anything

I’m still searching for that whole me
I’m still searching for that whole me
Trying to make the pieces meet
Trying to make the pieces meet

The first time l left my body
I almost didn’t turn back
I bought everything I dreamed of
Just to take it away from myself

Wasn’t even worthy to desire anything
Wasn’t even worthy to desire anything

I’m still searching for that whole me
I’m still searching for that whole me
Trying to make the pieces meet
Trying to make the pieces meet
