vōx x Salyu - I Would

from How You Feel Underneath EP by vōx & Salyu

/

about

The song is a nod to my own neurodivergence and how much I hate phone calls. I will literally avoid them at any cost! Maybe you can relate? In the height of lockdown this avoidance tactic made me feel so lonely and disconnected from the people I loved. In the song I’m overcoming that fear to support someone I love.

Salyu and I met when I performed in Tokyo in December 2019. We decided shortly after to start a collaboration, but we were soon thwarted by covid and the inability to go in or out of Japan. Over the next two years we painstakingly sent tracks back and forth via email, Alex Tanas and I working primarily via video sessions.

In January 2022 Alex and I sat down to listen to the project for the first time irl together, and we decided to scrap all the production. From scratch, and finally able to feed off the magic of in person energy, the finished songs came together in just a few days.

lyrics

(vōx)
Alone, I unfold
Now I tower and crash
I couldn’t let go if I wanted to
I couldn’t let go if I wanted to

I wouldn’t pick up the phone except you need me
If I could hold you now in my arms, I would
I would

(Salyu verse)

(vōx)
I wouldn’t pick up the phone except you need me
If I could hold you now in my arms, I would
I would
